GUWAHATI: Assam suffered a six-wicket defeat against Madhya Pradesh in their opening game of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket Tournament in Delhi today.

In Group B matches in Guwahati, Karnataka, Bengal and Services won their opening games and earned full points.

Assam, placed in group 'D', invited to bat first scored 103-9 in their 20 overs. Avishek Thakuri was the top scorer with 35. Pallav Das (22) was the other major contributor. After losing opener Danish Das (0) in the third ball of the innings Pallav and Avishek tried to repair the damage and added 32 runs on the second wicket. However once the partnership was broken Assam lost wickets on regular intervals. Captain Riyan Parag contributed only five runs on the board while Sahil Jain (4) and Rajjakuddin (8) also failed to come out as per the expectation. Amit Sinha remained not out on 12.

Madhya Pradesh reached the target in 14 overs losing four wickets. Roshan Alam bowled a superb spell and collected 3-20. The other wicket was collected by Riyan Parag.

Assam will face Gujarat tomorrow.

Meanwhile in Guwahati, Bengal defeated Chhattisgarh by 7 wickets at the ACA stadium, Barspara here today. Karnataka, at the same venue, beat Mumbai by 9 runs while at the Nehru Stadium Services upset Baroda by 2 wickets.
