lso GUWAHATI: Former national footballer Padmeswar Deka passed away on Friday. He was 81 years old. Deka, a celebrated forward from Morigaon, was an influential player during his time. He represented Assam twice in the prestigious Santosh Trophy and was a key member of the Assam Police team that won the Bordoloi Trophy in 1971. Recently, Deka was honored by Guwahati Sports Association during the second semi-finals of the 70th Bordoloi Trophy, recognizing his significant contributions to football.

Guwahati Sports Association expressed deep condolences over Deka’s passing. In a statement, Association President Paresh Chandra Das said, “Deka was not only a talented player but also an inspiring figure who served Assam Police with distinction, retiring as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in 2004. His legacy in Assam’s football community will always be remembered with pride and gratitude. His death is an immense loss to the sports world.”
