Veteran photojournalist of Assam Tarani Barman no more

GUWAHATI: First Sports Photojournalist of Assam Tarani Barman died in a city nursing home this evening after a brief illness. He was 80. The octogenarian was suffering from various old age-related problems and was admitted to a city nursing home.

Barman, the former employee of the State Forensic Department, had a huge passion for sports photography. He was associated with sports photography for nearly three decades and during this period captured many memorable moments from Bordoloi Trophy to many other events. Keeping always a smile on his face Barman was seen even at Nehru stadium during the last edition of the Bordoloi Trophy which was held in 2019.

Assam Sports Journalists Association has condoled the death of Barman. In a condolence message, the president Subodh Malla Barua and Secretary Imtiaz Ahmed said that it’s a great loss in the field of sports photography and the void would never be fulfilled. The president of the Assam Kho Kho Association Rajiv Prakash Barua and secretary Aftab Uddin also condoled the death of Barman.
