
Dubai: Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva defeated Dane Clara Tauson 7-6(1), 6-1 to win the Dubai Tennis Championships on Saturday.
At 17 years and 298 days, Andreeva is the youngest woman to win a WTA 1000 event since the introduction of the format in 2009. Overall, it the second title of her career. She had won the Iasi Open in Romania last year.
Andreeva defeated Major winners such as Marketa Vondrousova, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina on her way to the final in Dubai.
On Monday, she will climb from 14th to ninth in the WTA Rankings, becoming the first 17-year-old to be ranked in the Top 10 since Nicole Vaidisova in 2007. Agencies
