Nacho Scocco shows class as River Plate extend lead

Buenos Aires: Veteran forward Nacho Scocco scored a superb solo goal as 10-man River Plate extended their lead at the top of the Argentinian Superliga standings with 2-0 home victory over Central Cordoba. The hosts suffered a blow in the 14th minute when Paulo Diaz was shown a straight red card for tripping Gervasio Nunez off the ball.

However, River equalized on the stroke of half-time through Colombian centre-forward Rafael Borre, who met Matias Suarez’s inch-perfect cross from the left with a simple tap in at the far post on Sunday.

Scocco, introduced off the bench in the 75th minute, provided a moment of class in stoppage time by dancing around defender Oscar Salomon and Diego Rodriguez before rolling a shot into an unguarded net from a tight angle.

The result marked River’s third straight Superliga victory and left them with 36 points from 18 matches. IANS
