GUWAHATI: The Assam Cricket Association is worried about the rising trend of COVID-19 pandemic in the state and decided to stop it's proposed training camp which is scheduled to begin next week in Guwahati. In an interaction with The Sentinel the Secretary of the association Devajit Saikia also said that the association has not received any communication from BCCI on postponement of Ranji trophy this season. Here is the excerpt

The Sentinel (TS): There is news that BCCI may postpone Ranji Trophy this season because of COVID-19 pandemic. Have you received any communication?

Saikia: No. We have not received any such communication from the BCCI till date. We will abide by all the decisions that would be sent to us by the BCCI.

TS: COVID-19 takes serious turn in Assam. Is it possible to start any kind of cricket activities right now?

Saikia: Yes. It's true. Last a few days Guwahati has witnessed huge rise in the number of COVID-19 patients and the death toll is also going high simultaneously. It is really a matter of concern and we can't push the cricketers in danger zone.

TS: What about the training camps that you have earlier decided to start this month?

Saikia: Current situation doesn't permit us to organize such camps. So we have decided to postpone all the camps (senior, junior and women) till normalcy returns.

TS: What about the present status of the development work at Amingaon complex?

Saikia: It's going as per schedule. The work of earth filling is completed and the construction work of the pavilion (nearly 70 percent completed) also made good progress. The preparation of wicket will start soon.

TS: Any message to Riyan Parag who is going to play his second IPL season!

Saikia: Yes. Riyan is one of the most promising cricketers of the country. It's a nice opportunity for him to break all barriers and create path for next level of the game. Good luck to him!
