NEW DELHI: Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa held fort against reigning World champion and compatriot D. Gukesh, staging a come-from-behind victory in the tiebreaks to claim the Tata Steel Masters 2025 in Wijk aan Zee on Sunday night.
Praggnanandhaa needed only a draw in the final (13th) round against Germany’s Vincent Keymer to secure the tournament win after another co-leader ahead of the final round, Gukesh, lost his game against Arjun Erigaisi.
However, the German prodigy got the better of Praggnanandhaa, ensuring Gukesh had a second shot at the title. The tiebreaks delivered high drama, typical of two young players determined to win every game they played in the tournament. Agencies
