Simona Halep withdraws from Wimbledon

LONDON: Defending Wimbledon women's champion Simona Halep of Romania on Friday announced her withdrawn from this year's Wimbledon due a calf injury. "It is with great sadness that I'm announcing my withdrawal from The Championships as my calf injury has not fully recovered," Simona said on the Wimbledon website. The 29-year-old world No.3 player suffered a tear in her left calf during her second-round match against Germany's Angelique Kerber at the Italian Open in mid-May. IANS
