T20 World Cup: Can India Make It To The Semifinals?

Dubai: With a ray of hope, cricket fans went to the stadium to watch quality cricket for which the Indian team is known, but soon India fans were upset as India started losing back-to-back wickets. Eventually, the men in blue lost the match on Sunday and are now on the brink of an early exit in the T20 World Cup.

India lost both of its opening matches in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage against Pakistan (10 wickets) and New Zealand (by 8 wickets) which puts them at the risk of an early exit from the competition.

However, there are still chances of making it to the semi-final, but here the question comes that can India qualify the semi-finals by winning the remaining three matches with a big margin against Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia?

This is the first time in the history of T20 World Cup that Team India has been defeated in the first two matches. With this defeat, the Indian team has reached 5th place in the points table of Group 2. Team India's hopes of reaching the semi-finals while staying at number two now seem to be impossible.

Qualifying Scenarios

In the next match against Scotland and Namibia, Pakistan is likely to win to finish top of the table.

From Group 2, Pakistan has almost confirmed their place in the semi-finals by winning all three of their opening matches. They will now play against Namibia and Scotland. In such a situation, now the competition for the second place has become very exciting. Indian team now must pray that New Zealand must lose in one of the matches ahead.

If India wins the last three matches, then it will get 6 points. If the Kiwi team loses one match and wins two, then it will also get 6 points. Meanwhile, the Indian team needs to play cautiously against Afghanistan, who is in second place with 4 points from 3 matches. Team India should also pray to defeat Afghanistan as well as its defeat in other matches.

Afghanistan's run rate is very good. So, India teams needs to win against Afghanistan and other teams with a big margin. At the end, if the two teams have the same number of points then it will be decided by net run rate.
