The 37th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The 37th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated in the city today with a brief function because of COVID-19 pandemic.

September 3 is the birth day of first Arjuna Awardee athlete from Assam Bhogeswar Barua. The Abhiruchi Group has been celebrating the day with various functions for the last 36th years. However this time due to COVID-19 pandemic the organizer had decided to postpone mass jogging, dance competition and player's felicitation programme which are the integral part of the Sports Day.

Today's function was held at the Gauhati Press Club and it was presided over by the President of the organizing committee Balendra Mohan Chakraborty. Legendary athlete Tayabun Nessa along with sports organizer Rajib Prakash Baruah, veteran Sports journalists Pabitra Gogoi, Subodh Malla Baruah respectively and Purnananda Baruah, brother of Bhogeswar Baruah, attended the function.

Chakraborty informed the media that due to COVID-19 pandemic they decided to postpone the different functions this time. However if situation turns normal within December then the Abhiruchi Group will try to organize all the events on a particular day.
