NEW DELHI: In a historic success for India, the country will host the IOC (International Olympic Committee) in the upcoming year to be held in Mumbai.

On Saturday 19 February, the good news for India arrived following a bidding victory at the 139th IOC session organized in Beijing on the backdrop of the Winter Olympics.

India won the bid and became capable of hosting the event after long 40 years since in the year 1983 when it was hosted in New Delhi therefore it is regarded as a historic victory for India.

The International Olympic Committee Session for the year 2023 is fixed to take place at the newly state-of-the-art Jio World Convention and Exhibition Center located in east Bandra of Mumbai city.

In the event at the Beijing session on Saturday, India's Mumbai got record-breaking votes of 99% in favour of its bid from the representatives participating in the process. The candidacy of Mumbai has been given approval by 75 members present in the session.

This development is very significant for the Olympic aspirations as mentioned by one of the Indian delegates on the committee, Nita Ambani.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session comprises a total of 101 voting associates and 44 reputed persons who get together for an annual meeting of IOC associates.

The main objective of the session is to make various discussions, consultations and determination of the important aspects regarding the Olympic movement taking place across the globe.

Such discussions include the election of IOC members, selection of Olympic host city, change and required approval in Olympic charter among other important decisions.

The Indian representative in the sessions consists of Sports Minister Anurag Thakur, Lieutenant Colonel and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Apjit Bindra who is a retired sport shooter and a reputed Indian businessman.

The Indian delegates also had Narinder Batra who is the President of the IOA (Indian Olympic Association).
