DIRANG: State BJP President Biyuram Wahge kicked off the Greater Kameng Badminton Championship (GKBC), which aims in bringing closeness and unity among the youths in the field of sports near here on Tuesday.

The championship is organized by Greater Kameng Badminton Association (GKBA) with also the aim to build brotherhood among the people of the then undivided Kameng districts, East Kameng, Pakke Kessang, Tawang, and West Kameng. Representatives from all the districts including the local MLA attended the opening ceremony.

Speaking to the media, Wahge, who is also MLA from the Pakke Kesang constituency, lauded the association for taking the right step to promote the spirit of Sports and to bring unity to the people of the Greater Kameng belt.

He said that this is a marvelous initiative for the sake of the people, especially the youth residing in these Kameng belts. It is very important that such activities are being held in the district so that the youth be prepared for a better future in every aspect.

"We have witnessed that our youth are being misguided and involved in many negative activities and we can't afford to see their future end up in the wrong hands. We have to maintain this unity and this game is to bring unity even though there are so many districts that have been carved out in the past years," he said.

He said though today the greater Kameng district is divided, we should work together and take everybody on board. Just like a family, though we have moved out to start our own family, we should not leave each other behind.

"Though we are separated by districts, we need to maintain that peace and unity during the time of greater Kameng district. I encourage the youth of this Greater Kameng belt to come up with various cultural activities in order to attract many visitors to our State," he added.

Meanwhile, GKBA President Aju Khonjuju informed that the association was formed in 2011, where only three areas of the Kameng belt, Seppa, Bhalukpong and Bomdila participated.

He said as of now, nine clubs are participating which include, the Tawang Club, Dirang Club, Bomdila Club, Nafra Club, Kalatang Club, Rupa Club, Bhalukpong Club, and two Clubs from Seppa and Pakke Kesang Club.
