Guwahati Girls Debahati Lahon-Maini Baruah Wins 3rd Edition of Red Bull Shuttle Up 2021

GUWAHATI: In the 3rd edition of the Red Bull Shuttle Up 2021 competition held in Thyagaraj Sports Complex in Delhi, two girls from Guwahati Debahati Lahon and Maini Baruah have succeeded Sana Verma and Ekta Joshi from Delhi by winning in the finals in straight sets of 11-10 and 11-8.

The Red Bull Shuttle Up competition is the first-ever exclusive women's doubles badminton tournament in India where women above 16 years of age can participate. The matches in this badminton tournament are played on the basis of the knockout with three sets in each game.

The two winners Debahati Lahon and Maini Baruah have been the serial winners at the junior level. Debahati Lahon has been a national Champion from her school and in the All India Ranking in the year 2019, she ranked third in the doubles.

One of the players Maini Baruah has come up with great success in various national badminton tournaments. In the Senior Nationals Badminton Championship held in 2019, Maini Baruah was a part of the team that won the bronze medal. She won a silver medal in mixed doubles in the North East Zonals Championship held in 2019 and also became the U-19 doubles champion.

The 5 cities where the qualifying battles of Red Bull Shuttle Up 2021 were held are – Chandigarh, Delhi Hyderabad, Guwahati and Mumbai. The players participated in pairs with winning pairs from each city along with Debahuti Lahon and Maini Boruah from Guwahati others are Nalini Malik and Khushboo Shah from Chandigarh, Afnan Zareen and Arun Komal from Hyderabad, and Debahuti Lahon and Maini Boruah, Sana Verma and Ekta Joshi from Delhi, Shubhangi Majumder and Ramsha Farooqui from Mumbai respectively.

Ashwini Ponaappa, Indian Women's Doubles shuttler and a Red Bull athlete said in a statement that it is encouraging to see women badminton players with great passion and talent participating in the National Finals of Red Bull Shuttle Up. She further says about her journey with Red Bull Shuttle Up which was great and wishes to see it growing in the upcoming years.

The winning pair from Guwahati Debahuti Lahon and Maini Boruah also expressed their happiness in winning the tournament of Red Bull Shuttle Up National Finals along with sharing their experience saying that they are thankful to Red Bull for providing such a platform to present the talent of girls like them.
