Guwahati: Bowlers of Assam did a splendid job and restricted Uttar Pradesh to 274 in their first innings on Day II of Ranji Trophy tie at Lahli today. Assam, trailed by 9 runs in the first innings, were 5-1 in their second innings at stumps.

Uttar Pradesh, chasing Assam first innings total 265, once looked very good position. Although the side lost opener Madhav Kaushik (8) early in the innings, Samarth Singh, the second opener, and Priyam Garg nicely repaired the damage. The duo on the second wicket partnership added 124 runs. The partnership was broken by Mukhtar Hussain and thereafter Uttar Pradesh lost wickets on regular intervals. However still they managed to earn a slender first innings lead because of Samarth Singh (70), Priyam Garg (46) and Dhruv Jurel (55).

Among the bowlers of Assam, Mukhtar Hussain came out with best figures picking 3 wickets for 51. Riyan Parag, Ranjeet Mali and Sidharth Sarma bagged two wickets each.

Assam faced six overs in the remaining part of the day and they scored 5-1 in the second innings. Subham Mondal failed to open his account. Other opener Rishav Das and Pallav Kumar Das remained not out on 0 and 4 respectively.

Meanwhile at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati Delhi in reply to Jharkhand's first innings total 251, scored 223-8 at stumps on Day II. Jonty Sidhu remained not out on 78. Himmat Singh (43) was the other major contributor. Delhi still trailed by 28 runs.

At the Nehru stadium Tamil Nadu today declared their first innings 470-9. Baba Aparajith and Baba Indrajith, both of them scored centuries on the first day, got out 166 and 127 runs respectively. Shahrukh Khan contributed 69 runs on the board. Chhattisgarh were 105-5 in the first innings at stumps on Day II.
