England Lifts T20 World Cup 2022, Defeats Pakistan By 5 Wickets

England crashed Pakistan by 5 wickets to lift the T20 World Cup at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

MELBOURNE: England emerged as the winners of the T20 World Cup 2022 by defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets. The match was played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

With this resounding victory, the winning team has added another glory to its name. England has earned this rare feat to hold both the world cup titles of the 50 and 20 overs at the same time. What's more to add here is that it is only the second team after West Indies to hold two T20 World Cup titles in its name at the same time.

Not only that, but for another reason too the victory of England over Pakistan was glorifying. Notably, it is nearly thirty years after losing the 50-over World Cup final to Pakistan that too at the Melbourne Cricket Ground that the side lifted the title.

Also, this is England's second T20 World Cup win after they lodged their first one in 2010.

It may be mentioned here that England won their first ever 50 over World Cup in 2019 after having been runners up earlier in 1979, 1987 and 1992.

The English team locked their opponents at 137 runs in 8 wickets.

While Pakistan's only victory at the T20 World Cup happened in 2009.

While a major share of the credit for the win goes to cricketer Ben Stokes who produced the divisive innings with an unbeaten 52 runs to cross the victory target of 137.

Sam Curran was declared the player of the match as well the tournament. When asked about the victory, Curran said, "I don't think I should be getting this, I think Ben Stokes should get this. Big square boundaries, so I knew my into the wicket bowling would work with big boundaries. I mixed it up with slower balls to make it tough for the batter. Incredibly special. We all look upto him. People question him but he's incredible."
