India Defeats New Zealand and Bags ODI Series

RAIPUR: India took down New Zealand quite comfortably in the second one-day international cricket match held in the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium of Raipur on Saturday.

With this win, India also won the three-match ODI series. In the high-scoring first match, India had set a massive target of 349 runs after batting through their stipulated 50 overs and losing 8 wickets. New Zealand managed to score 337 runs before losing all their wickets with four balls to spare in their innings.

Today's match started on a funny note as the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma forgot what to select after winning the toss. This minor fumble left both the captains and officials laughing. But he did select to field in the first half.

India worked their magic with the ball today as they managed to get the visiting team out for just 109 runs on the scoreboard in 34.3 overs. Glenn Phillips (36), Michael Bracewell (22) and Mitchell Santner(27) were the only batsmen who could score in double digits. All the bowlers managed to get wickets for the Indian team. Mohammed Shami took three wickets, while Hardik Pandiya and Washington Sundar took two wickets each.

Batting second, India easily in just 20 overs and one ball. Captain Rohit Sharma scored a half-century after coming to the field as an opener but lost his wicket soon after. The only other batsman to get out from the Indian side was Virat Kohli who was stumped by wicketkeeper Tom Litham at a score of 11 runs from 9 balls. Shubman Gill showed his consistency once again today and remained not out with 40 runs.

The continuous second win with the Kiwi side makes special sense because the Indian team was able to get the opposition team out. This shows the increase in the bowling strength of the Indian team while re-establishing its dominance in the batting department.
