AHMEDABAD: The fourth and final match of the ongoing Border Gavaskar trophy is now heading for a draw as the hosts trail by 191 runs at the end of play for the third day of the match.

Australia was in a very commanding position since the very beginning of the match. India was finally able to bowl them out at the massive score of 480 on Day 2. Usman Khawaja hit a brilliant 180 and Cameron Green scored his maiden test 100 in the match propelling the Australian team to this massive total.

Virat Kohli has also become the second Indian player to grab 300 catches in international cricket in his career. The cricketer’s 300th catch at the first slip dismissed Nathan Lyon of Australia off the ball of Ravichandran Ashwin. This catch also put an end to the first innings of the Australian team in the fourth and final test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged six wickets in the match making him India's highest wicket-taker (113 wickets) in the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

Australia has already reserved its berth for the ICC World Test Championship when they defeated India in the 3rd match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. India must however win this match to do the same. Even a draw in the ongoing match might, which will mean that India wins the tournament, might not be enough to go ahead for the biggest tournament in the long format of the game.

Shubman Gill’s 128 helped India to reach the score of 289 with the loss of three wickets at the end of play on day 3. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten at 59 while Ravindra Jadeja was at 16 when the day’s play came to an end. It remains to see how India plans to take the match forward in the remaining two days.
