GUWAHATI: Assam stormed into the quarter finals in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Cricket defeating Bengal by 8 wickets in Mohali today. Chasing 139 runs to win Assam reached the target with 13 balls remaining.

Riyan Parag once again came out with flying colour and displayed an all round performance in the game. He first took two wickets and later scored an unbeaten half century, his seventh consecutive 50s in the competition.

In the quarter final Assam will now face Kerala and the match will be held in Mohali on November 2.

Invited to bat, Bengal scored 138-8 in their 20 overs. Although both the openers Abhimanyu Easwaran (21) and Abishek Porel (23) gave good start scoring 34 runs on the first wicket partnership in 3.5 overs but Assam came back strongly in the game thereafter and didn’t allow the batters of Bengal to push the score beyond 150. Bengal were once struggling, 7-86 in 13.1 overs before the eighth wicket partnership between Karan Lal (24) and Kaushik Maity (21) produced 41 runs which made the total a little respectable. Among the bowlers of Assam Akash Sengupta (3-29) came out with the best figure and Riyan Parag picked up 2-23.

Assam didn’t face any trouble to chase the target and scored the winning run in 17.5 overs losing two wickets. Captain Riyan Parag took 21 balls to score 50 not out with the help of two boundaries and four sixes. He got good support from Bishal Roy who remained not out on 45 (4X6, 6X1). Opener Rishav Das (31) also contributed well in the game.
