New Zealand Batsman Ross Taylor Announces International Retirement

Wellington: New Zealand Batsman Ross Taylor has announced his retirement from international cricket.

The upcoming test series against Bangladesh will be his last test cricket while the One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia and the Netherlands will be his last ODI cricket.

The veteran cricketer currently has 110 Test caps and 233 ODI caps under his belt. He also happens to be the leading run-scorer for the Kiwis in Test cricket as well as ODI's.

He has scored a total of 8581 runs in ODI's and 7584 runs in test matches during the course of his illustrious career.

His highest test score of 290 came against the Aussies in Perth while his highest score in ODI is 181 not out which came against England in March 2018.

He set his foot on international cricket in 2006 when he made his international debut in an ODI against West Indies. Thereafter, he appeared in his first test match against South Africa in November 2007.

Ross Taylor also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Royal Challengers Bangalore (2008-10), Rajasthan Royals (2011), Delhi Daredevils (2012;2014) and Pune Warriors India (2013).

Taylor tasted silverware earlier this year after New Zealand clinched the first-ever World Test Championships by defeating India.

"It's been an amazing journey and I feel incredibly fortunate to have represented my country for as long as I have. It's been such a privilege to play with and against some of the greats of the game and to have created so many memories and friendships along the way," Taylor said.

Black Caps coach Gary Stead has lauded the versatile batsman and said that he would finish his career as one of the country's greats.

"Ross has always been a hugely respected member of the side and we're thankful for his contributions to the Blackcaps over an incredible career. His skills and temperament as a batsman have been world-class and his ability to perform at such a high level for so long speaks volumes of his longevity and professionalism," the coach said.
