Ravindra Jadeja Clinches Top Spot In ICC Test Player Rankings For All-Rounder

New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has grabbed the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test Rankings for all-rounders. The rise in his ranking comes in the backdrop of his outstanding performance against Sri Lanka in the first Test Match in Mohali.

The dashing all rounder performed exceedingly well with both the bat and the bowl. He remained not out for 175 runs while picking up a total of nine wickets in the match to help the Men in Blue cruise past the Lankan Lions in a scintillating manner.

Jadeja stitched a crucial partnership with R Ashwin which helped India reach a mammoth score of 574 for 8. Jadeja was later adjourned as the 'Man of the Match'.

Jadeja has displaced Jason Holder of the West Indies to regain the top spot in the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings for all-rounders. It is to be noted that the former Windies skipper Holder topped the list since February 2021.

However, this is not the first time that Jadeja has reached the summit of the Test all-rounder rankings. He had previously held the position for a week back in August 2017.

Jadeja is also steadily climbing up the ladder and has moved up three places to sit at No. 17 on the bowling rankings. On the other hand, he has been ranked 37th on the batting table. Prior to the update, he had been ranked 54th on the batting list.

Jadeja was part of the Indian U-19 cricket team that won the World Cup in Malaysia in 2008 under the captaincy of the current Indian captain Virat Kohli. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 8 February 2009 and scored an unbeaten 60 off 77 balls in that match. However, his Test debut came almost four years later, on 13 December 2012, against England at Nagpur.

Jadeja was bought for $2 million by the Chennai Super Kings at the 2012 IPL Players Auction. He was bought by the Gujarat Lions in the 2016 IPL Players Auction for ₹9.5 crores after the Chennai Super Kings were banned from the IPL for two seasons.

On 22 January 2017, Jadeja became the first Indian left-arm spinner to take 150 One Day International wickets, when he dismissed Sam Billings at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. In March 2017, he became the top-ranked bowler in the world leaving behind Ravichandran Ashwin who held that position for a long time.

Jadeja has 58 test caps, 168 ODI caps and 57 T20I caps under his belt. He has scored a total of 2370 runs in test matches, 2411 runs in ODI's and 326 runs in T20I's for India.

As far as the bowling department is concerned, he has picked up a total of 241 wickets in tests, 188 in ODI's and 47 in T20I's.

He represents Saurashtra in first-class cricket and the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He is widely considered to be one of the finest fielders in the recent times.
