Junior Women's National Football C'ship: Manipur thrash Uttarakhand 14-0

Guwahati: Manipur registered a thumping 14-0 victory over Uttarakhand in the Junior Women's National Football Championship at the Indira Gandhi Athletics stadium here today. Uttarakhand managed to give a little fight in the first half but the second half was totally one sided affair and Manipur scored 11 goals in the last 45 minutes of the game. Mayanglambam Sanjana Chanu scored four goals for her team. Oinam Babita Devi (3), Ipham Romina Begum, Usham Luxmi Devi , Khumukcham Bhumika Devi (3), Thingbaijam Sanjita Devi and Kimte Langel netted the other goals in the match.

Altogether 10 group league matches were held in different venues on Wednesday, the 5th day of the competition. Apart from Manipur, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Bihar and Tamil Nadu also defeated their respective opponents by a big margin today.

Bihar, maintaining their good form in the competition, registered their third consecutive victories at the SAI Complex here today. This time the side defeated Delhi by 5-0. Lucky Kumari, who is in good form, once again came out with flying colours and scored three goals in the match. With these three goals the striker altogether scored 10 goals in the competition till date and is now placed at the top of the highest scorer list. Shruti Kumari and Manisha Kumari were the other scorers for Bihar in the game. In another tie at the same venue Madhya Pradesh defeated Telengana by 5-1.

At the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium Nagaland beat Ladakh by 2-1. Diezechunuo Seyie and Chimmushe scored one goal each for Nagaland before the break. Aliya Ashraf reduced one for Ladakh in the second half.

Punjab lost to Kerala by 1-6 at the same venue. Shilji Shaji, played brilliant soccer in the match, scored five goals for Kerala and Aswani M R netted the other one. Kripa Bhandari returned one goal for Punjab. Two more matches were held today at the Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium where Jharkhand thrashed Andhra Pradesh 11-0 and Tripura lost to Dadra and Nagar Haveli 0-7. Khusboo Hessa of Jharkhand alone scored six goals in the match.

At LNIPE, Sonapur Maharashtra won against Chandigarh by 2-0. Tamil Nadu beat Jammu and Kashmir by 6-0 at Dimakuchi. The other game at the same venue was also a one sided affair where West Bengal thrashed Rajasthan 8-0. West Bengal opened their account within four minutes of the game through Rina barman. Rimpa Haldar (3), Sonali Soren (2), Sulanjana Raul, Sarjida Khatun scored the other goal in the match. West Bengal were 7-0 ahead in the lemon break.
