Kohima: Mongsenbai Ward will faceoff against Dilong Ward in the final match of the ongoing 3rd Mokokchung inter-ward football tournament and the fixture will be played on May 14 at 1 pm in Mokokchung.
Mongsenbai Ward had earlier defeated Lijaba Lijen Ward 1-0 in a low scoring second semi-final match held on May 12, thereby sealing their spot in the final.
The match was highly contested with both the teams trying to assert their dominance in the pitch but none of them succeeded in outplaying the other till the half-time whistle was blown and the score was 0-0.
The game took a new turn in the second half when the Mongsenbai team was awarded a penalty after a foul was committed inside the penalty box by one of Lijaba Lijen's players.
Subsequently, the spot kick was taken by Shiponglepba of Mongsenbai Ward in the 55th minute and he did not waste this golden opportunity and placed the ball in the back of the net.
This goal turned out to be the ticket for the final for the Mongsenbai team and they emerged victorious in this crucial encounter, thus booking their berth for the final.
The game also saw four yellow cards being produced (two each to both the teams) for unsportsmanlike behavior.
Nekmi Longkumer, the general secretary of the AKM, happened to be the match patron for the second semi-final match.
The tournament has been organized by Marepkong Youth Association, who will conduct a brief closing ceremony on May 14.
Mangla Imchen, the District Sports Officer (DSO) of Mokokchung, will grace the programme as the guest of honor.
