The Energy & Power Department, Government of Sikkim is responsible for generation, distribution and transmission of electricity in the State of Sikkim. The Department is a deemed licensee under the provisions of the electricity Act, 2003 in the State. Presently the Department is the sole power distributor in the State of Sikkim. The Department has its own installed capacity of 40.692 MW of which 35.7 MW is in hydro power sector and about 4.992 MW of diesel generation. Apart from this the power supply requirements of the department are met from the Sikkim Power Development Corporation Limited (SPDCL) and its share from Central generating Stations. The Department also own its distribution and transmission networks within the State of Sikkim.
