25 government officials summoned by State police

GUWAHATI, June 5: In connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), 25 officials of the State government have come under scanner of the investigating agency.

On June 9 next, these 25 officials, including 6 APS, 11 ACS and other officials, have been summoned by the Dibrugarh Police. Sources informed that these officials’ writing samples will be collected on the same day by police at the Assam Administrative Staff College.

Sources further informed that these 25 officials got their jobs through APSC exam during the term of Rakesh Paul, the deposed chairman of the Commission.

The cash-for-job scam has recently taken a new turn with the Assam Combined Competitive Examition conducted by the Commission in 2015 now brought under scrutiny of the investigating agencies due to suspicion of large-scale malpractices.

It may be mentioned that several key officials of the government are selected through the Assam Combined Competitive Examition.

Recently, the Dibrugarh Police conducted raids in the APSC headquarters and seized around 990 answer scripts of 180 candidates of the 2015 exams conducted by the Commission. The results of this examition were declared in the first part of 2016.

Meanwhile, the Special Judge’s Court here fixed June 9 as the next date of hearing on conducting of rco-alysis and polygraph tests on Rakesh Paul.
