GUWAHATI, April 2: Three army personnel were killed in an ambush on a convoy that was traveling from Lekhapi in Assam to Longding in Aruchal Pradesh.

Three army personnel belonged to the 4 Rajput Regiment.

Three jawans were killed on the spot and four others wounded, official sources said.

The ambush was carried out near Old Tupi village of Tirap district of Aruchal Pradesh on the Khonsa-Longding road early on Thursday morning.

The militants targeted the last of the four-vehicle convoy.

All the casualties occurred in the fourth vehicle as the other three vehicles had already crossed the spot.

Police sources suspect it to be a handiwork of one of the two factions of the NSCN.

Both NSCN(IM) and NSCN(K) has strong presence in Eastern Aruchal Pradesh.

There have been several attacks on security personnel in the Tirap-Changlang areas, most of them blamed on the ga outfits.
