Guwahati, Nov 15: Some 6,500 high school teachers in the State, appointed on contractual basis in 2010, are staring at an uncertain future.

These high school teachers - subject teachers of English, Social Studies, General Science and Mathematics - were appointed during the tenure of the then Education minister Gautam Bora.

Their initial contract was for eleven months, after which it was being renewed every year.

However, after the lapse of the latest contract on September 30 last, their contracts have not been renewed till date, creating a flutter among the fraternity.

Sources said they are yet to receive the salaries for the month of October.

With the annual examitions approaching, the teachers are, however, continuing with their duties.

"We are facing an uncertain future. We are not sure what the government is up to. Bt we are doing our duties religiously," said a teacher who did not wish to be med.

Education minister Sarat Barkataky had recently assured that their jobs will be regularized. But it is learnt that the file is lying in the Fince department, which is grappling with a fund crisis for the last several months.
