A compassiote leader, widely loved

Kalikho Pul was widely loved and admired for his compassiote approach towards the needy. He was known for high probity in public life and honest politics. After becoming the Chief Minister, Pul began holding 'Jata Darbar' every Saturday in different parts of the state to interact with the people. He also allowed his helicopter to carry critically ill patients to Itagar and to other places in the country for treatment. Early this year, Pul had led a group of dissident MLAs from Congress against bam Tuki and was sworn-in as Chief Minister a few hours after President's Rule was revoked in the state on February 19. Later, Pul and his supporters joined the People's Party of Aruchal (PPA). He remained in the top post till July 13 when the Supreme Court reinstated bam Tuki, who then made way for Pema Khandu to become the CM on July 16. Pul and his supporters returned to the Congress fold and supported Khandu for the top post. Pul, who represented Hyuliang constituency in eastern Aruchal Pradesh, had earlier served in various capacities in Aruchal Pradesh including as Fince, Power and Tribal Affairs Minister. (IANS)
