AASU slams Gogoi over NRC update

'CM disrespecting Supreme Court'

GUWAHATI, Dec 8: The All Assam Students’ Union on Tuesday slammed Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and said that Gogoi is dishonouring the apex court.

In a statement to the media, AASU president Dipanka Kumar th and general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi said, “The Supreme Court has instructed that officials involved in NRC should not be assigned any other task. But Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is disrupting the entire process by various means. By doing so, the Chief Minister is disrespecting the Supreme Court.”

On the other hand, the Assam Public Works called on the NRC State coorditor to submit their suggestion regarding the verification of NRC on Tuesday.

Earlier on Dec 1, the APW submitted modalities through its advocate at the Supreme Court, regarding verification of NRC process.

Talking to the media, APW president Abhijeet Sarma said, “We requested him (Prateek Hajela) to look after the suggestion and try to take the best way so that not a single illegal foreigner can enter me in the NRC nor any indigenous or genuine Indian citizen left out.”

“We also requested him to take his time but complete the task as soon as possible,” he added. The APW also suggested that ‘(CENSUS 1971) District CENSUS Handbook of VILLAGE & TOWN DIRECTORY’ will be helpful in the verification process as all the mes of Villages & Towns of 1971 are available in the handbook.
