BY Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, Nov 15: Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today termed as "false" and "baseless" AASU's remark that present government is stonewalling the NRC update process.

"It is due to my initiative the NRC updation process has begun in right earnest. We are for a correct NRC devoid of any foreigner's me," he said in a statement.

Gogoi said that the State Government has all along been putting emphasis on preparation of a correct NRC to resolve the long-standing issue of illegal immigration.

He also said that efforts have been made by the State Government so that no genuine Indian citizen's me is left out and no illegal foreigner's me is included in the NRC.

Chief Minister Gogoi said the State Government has accorded top priority to the exercise by putting its men and materials. Because of the timely intervention of the State Government, the process of updating the NRC is being done expeditiously, he claimed. Chief Minister Gogoi also said that if there is any loopholes in the NRC updation process, AASU or any organization should bring it to the notice of the concerned authority.
