ACC seeks suggestions from businessmen for definition of 'Assamese'

GUWAHATI, March 22: The tumultuous debate on the definition of the word ‘Assamese’ or the phrase ‘indigenous Assamese’ has touched all. Assam Chamber of Commerce (ACC) has made it crystal clear in a press release that it too has something to say on this issue. ACC chairman Rupam Goswami said that the Chamber, in its meeting held of March 21, decided to accept suggestions from the business community of Assam regarding the definition of the word ‘Assamese’. Goswami requested all business-related persons and organizations to send their suggestions to ACC’s email id. Goswami said: “In the recent development we have seen that some Bangladeshi-origin people and organizations have given some ucceptable statements posing a threat to the indigenous people of Assam. Now it has become extremely important to come out with a definition of Assamese.”
