AGP leader Joseph Topno no more

GUWAHATI, March 22: Senior AGP leader Joseph Topno passed away at a private hospital in the city on Tuesday. He was 62. Topno was admitted to the hospital on March 17 following a brain stroke. Topno was associated with the AGP since 1985 and represented Dhekiajuli constituency as MLA on three occasions. He was also elected as Lok Sabha MP from Tezpur constituency in 2009.

The AGP has declared 3-days mourning on Topno’s demise. AGP president Atul Bora, its legislature party leader Phanibhushan Choudhury, ex-CM Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, former party president Brindaban Goswami, former MPs Birendra Prasad Baishya and Kumar Deepak Das have condoled his demise.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Anjan Dutta also condoled Topno’s demise and termed it an irreparable loss. It may be mentioned that Topno was considered a powerful voice of the tea community and had fought for its rights throughout his political career.
