AGP manifesto promises to safeguard indigenous people

Guwahati, March 18: The Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) today released its manifesto for the State assembly elections, falling on its promise of implementing all clauses of Assam Accord "to safeguard the identity of the indigenous people" as its main issue.

The party also promised to open floodgates of employment through development of agriculture and industry. It also assured to clear the forests of encroachment.

The AGP, fighting the election with BJP as its ally, promised to ensure implementation of the Assam Accord, which was signed in 1985 as a culmition of the Assam Agitation spearheaded by the current the AGP leaders.

Releasing the manifesto at the party headquarters here, AGP president Atul Bora said, "Our main commitment will always be implementing the Assam Accord. The Congress has betrayed Assam in this front and we have come together with the BJP to ensure its implementation."

"The downfall of the Congress will begin from April 4," he said.

The AGP said it would ensure proper utilisation and magement of water resources to tackle the flood and erosion problem.

The manifesto also spelt out the party's stand on various problems and ways to resolve it, including education, border areas and inclusive growth.
