Guwahati, March 27: Two ministers of the Assam cabinet, Atul Bora and Keshab Mahanta, belonging to the AGP, met Prime Minister rendra Modi on Tuesday and conveyed their concern about the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
The two ministers said the proposed law will violate some of the main provisions of the Assam Accord, adding it will pose a grave threat to Assam’s language, literature, culture and tradition.
They urged the Prime Minister to call a tripartite meeting involving the Centre, State government and other organizations who are stakeholders so that the social security of the State is ensured in accordance with the provisions of the Assam Accord.
They requested the Prime Minister to maintain status quo as far as the State’s special category status as earlier is concerned.
