AHRC orders probe into Victoria's death

GUWAHATI, July 7: The Assam Human Rights Commission has ordered an enquiry into the mysterious death of Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor, the Meghalaya woman found dead in mysterious circumstances inside a toilet in the Dispur police station on Sunday night.

The AHRC, in a press release said that taking suo moto cognizance of the news about the mysterious death of Victoria Dayoun Kharkongor, the Commission has directed the Kamrup Metropolitan District Magistrate to cause an enquiry to be conducted through a senior Magistrate into the circumstances that led to the death of the woman, and submit report within 30 days of receipt of the notice.

A resident of Shillong, Victoria allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside the toilet of Dispur police station on July 5. Though she was rushed to the GMCH, doctors declared her brought dead.
