AIUDF legislator Gopith Das missing!

Guwahati, Sept 9: AIUDF legislator from Boko Gopith Das, facing charges of molesting a domestic help, is said to be missing.

Boko police had yesterday visited the MLA Hostel quarter of Das but the legislator was not present there. The legislator was also not present at his Udalbakra residence.

Meanwhile, police today questioned the alleged victim and his family at Boko police station. The victim has been sent to the State Home today for counseling.

"We are looking for the legislator. We have to interrogate him. Police went to his MLA Hostel quarter and private residence, but he was not there," Kamrup superintendent of police Indrani Barua said.

On allegations that the accused legislator was communicating with the victim's family for a compromise, the SP said police was investigation the angle.

The minor girl and her family had lodged a complaint against Das on Sunday night, alleging she was molested by Das in his vehicle a few days back. The legislator allegedly committed the crime while returning from his home town garbera to Guwahati.

The victim was brought to Guwahati Medical College & Hospital for examition.

A case against Das was registered under section 343 of the Indian Pel Code and section 4 and 8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Das had denied the charge claiming that it was an attempt to mar his political career ahead of assembly elections early next year.
