AIUDF MLAs expelled for the day

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, August 10: AIUDF legislators were expelled from the House for the day after they created repeated commotion on the first day of the summer session on Monday, demanding an adjournment motion to discuss alleged irregularities and corruption in various departments, including the Assam Public Service Commission.

The AIUDF legislators alleged that job rackets were thriving in various government departments and insisted that the issue needs discussion in the House.

The Speaker, however, disallowed the request claiming that "rules do not permit it."

Senior minister Rakibul Hussain said that the issue of anomalies in the APSC is a sub-judice matter and hence cannot be discussed in the House.

When the AIUDF MLAs kept on pressing for an adjournment motion, Speaker Prab Kumar Gogoi adjourned the House for ten minutes. The main opposition party kept insisting on its demand even after the House reassembled after ten minutes, prompting the Speaker to first warn and then expel the MLAs from the House for the day.

Later, the AIUDF slammed the ruling government for "setting side" such an important issue on the pretext of it being sub-judice.
