GUWAHATI, April 12: With BJP in the lead role and the AGP, BPF, Rabha and Tiwa bodies as strong partners, the BJP-led alliance in the State is certain to get an absolute mandate in its favour on May 19. Talking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, BJP State president and chief ministerial candidate Sarbanda Sonowal expressed confidence about prospects of the saffron alliance in forming the next government in the State.

“We are confident that the alliance as a whole will cross the Mission 84+ mark which we had set earlier. People came out in large numbers to end the 15 years of misrule and corruption of the Congress government. On May 19, we will get the mandate to form the government and we assure that we will try our best to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” said Sonowal. AGP president Atul Bora too sounded hopeful that the alliance will get absolute mandate to rule the State. “Since 2001, the Congress had been taking advantage of vote division among the Opposition. So, this time we formed the alliance to unite all anti-Congress votes and we succeeded,” Bora said.

He further added, “BJP gave us 24 seats and we had friendly contests in 6 more seats. We (BJP-led alliance) are confident of securing an absolute majority”. It may be mentioned that following the high voter turnout this assembly elections, leaders of the BJP and alliance parties have publicly expressed hopes of getting absolute majority. However, the actual picture will be known only on May 19, the day of reckoning when votes for five assembly elections in the country will be counted.
