By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, March 6: AGP president Atul Bora said today his party's alliance with the BJP is "issue-based".

"The Congress, during its fifteen-year rule, broke all records of misrule.  The people want a Congress-free Assam. In the interest of installing a non-Congress government, the AGP has forged an alliance with the BJP," Bora told a press conference here.

"It is the need of the hour to dislodge the Congress from power. That is why we decided to tie up with the BJP," he said.

Bora said the AGP will announce the list of candidates for the upcoming elections on March 9.

He also said that though the BJP set aside 24 seats for the AGP, talks are on and that the regiol party may get a few more. Meanwhile, Asom Yuba Parishad president Sunil Konwar today resigned from the party, protesting the alliance with BJP. Konwar, also a ticket aspirant, said in his resigtion letter that the alliance with the BJP is a "threat to regiolism".
