GUWAHATI, May 25: An ambulance carrying a cancer patient was stopped along with other vehicles at Christian Basti area here to allow the Chief Minister’s convoy to pass. The CM was on his way to Rajiv Bhavan this noon.

The ambulance was reportedly coming to Guwahati with the patient from Golaghat. Police personnel stopped the ambulance for some minutes as part of the security measures to allow the CM’s convoy to pass.

The act of the security personnel has raised many eyebrows in the light of rulings by several courts that essential services like fire brigades, ambulances or other vehicles carrying patients cannot be held hostage in the me of security. Commuters in Guwahati have been affected badly for years due to the so-called security protocol in which vehicles are held up on the route through which the convoy of the CM is to pass.

Despite Chief Minister Gogoi himself claiming that the security of the State has improved much, he uses twenty-odd vehicles in his security convoy.

It is reported that no other Chief Minister in the country uses so many vehicles in his convoy.
