Anil Ambani seeks Kamakhya blessings

Reliance Group boss pledges support for temple cleanliness

GUWAHATI, March 21: Leading industrialist Anil Ambani on Saturday pledged to launch a cleanliness drive at the Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal hill here. Visiting the temple this morning, the Reliance Group chairman also committed to pay the salaries of the safai workers in the temple. Anil Ambani was accompanied by his wife Ti Ambani and mother Kokilaben Ambani.

bakanta Sarma of Kamakhya Debutter Board told this newspaper that after offering prayers at the temple, Ambani visited the board’s office where he discussed with office bearers the requirements of the temple.

“He was more interested in the cleanliness part. Ambani is among the nine eminent persolities picked up by Prime Minister rendra Modi to propagate his Swachh Bharat campaign. Ambani said he would pay the salaries of the safai workers at the temple. He also asked us to recruit more workers if required,” Sarma said.

Presently, there are 90 safai workers, including supervisors, at the temple. Their average salary comes to around Rs 5,000 per month.

The board also took up the matter of water supply in the temple with Ambani.

“The temple premises are cleaned three times a day, but we have no water supply in the premises. Though Ambani did not commit anything, he asked us to send a proposal,” the board functiory said.

Earlier, the Ambanis offered a buffalo as sacrifice and observed the Kumari Puja at the revered shrine.

The Ambanis later had lunch at Chief Minister’s official residence at Koidhora. During a meeting with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Anil Ambani expressed his keenness to work for the cleanliness and beautification of Kamakhya Temple.

Gogoi also sought help from Reliance Group to set up a child museum in the State. Ambani said his wife Ti will take the necessary initiatives in this regard.

Meanwhile, Governor PB Acharya today iugurated the All Assam Yogashan Competition at the Kamakhya temple premises. The three-day event is being organized jointly by the Debutter Board, Sewa Bharati Purbanchal and Maa Kamakhya Yog Bikash Kendra.
