Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested PWD engineer for taking bribe in Tezpur

TEZPUR: An engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD), Electrical Division, Tezpur was arrested by officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while he was allegedly accepting a bribe from a contractor here on Friday.

Narayan Chandra Dey, posted as Executive Engineer, at the Rubber Bagan PWD office in Sonitpur District was arrested from his office while he was taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from contractor Ramen Patowary.

Sources said that the Executive Engineer had demanded Rs 50,000 for approving a bill regarding some electrical works done by the contractor. Based on a complaint filed by the contractor, the ACB sleuths caught the engineer red-handed while taking the bribe.

The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused by the ACB team. Later, the accused engineer was produced before the Special Court at Guwahati.
