DHUBRI, April 9: One Safique Mian of Gauripur was arrested for allegedly shouting anti-tiol slogan during the 12-hour Dhubri district bandh called by the ‘Dhubri District Unyan Parishad’ in protest against the killing of 14 daily wage labourers in East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya recently.

Anti-tiol slogans like “Bharatiya garik murdabad” were allegedly  shouted by activists of the Parishad led by Safique Mian, while staging a road blockade at Matiabog under Gauripur police station in the district.

A case was registered against the Parishad and the incident is being  investigated, informed Dhubri Additiol SP Debasish Bora.

Denying having any link with Safique Mian, Parishad sources said that he is not a member of the organization.

A 12-hour bandh was called by the Parishad protesting the alleged killing of the 14 daily wage labourers, demanding a CBI inquiry into the deaths and compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the victims.
