GUWAHATI, January 18: The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has taken strong exception to the statement made by Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharyya on January 13 questioning the achievements of the 13–year–old Tarun Gogoi–led Congress government in Assam.

In a statement issued here today, APCC president Anjan Dutta said that the Assam PCC dared the BJP to publish a whitepaper on the developmental programmes initiated for Assam and the Northeast during the previous NDA regime (1998–2004), led by Atal Behari Vajpayee.

Dutta said that the BJP’s ‘Act East Policy’ was a simple copy–paste of the ‘Look East Policy’ that had been formulated by the UPA–led government at the Centre. He also dared the BJP to show its commitment to the people of the State by getting back the main culprits of the December 23, 2014 massacre of innocent Adivasis. “The abolition of the North East industrial Promotion Policy which was due to expire on 2017 is another illustrious highlight of the ‘Act East Policy’ of the present BJP regime,” Dutta said.

Dutta warned the BJP not to adopt diversiory and commul politics in the days ahead as the urban and the rural voters of Assain were well versed with the prevailing socio–economic–cultural dymics.

The State PCC, in the meantime, requested Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to publish a “whitepaper” immediately after release of the whitepaper of the State BJP on the achievements of the earlier NDA regime and the present 8–month–old tenure of BJP regime led by Prime Minister rendra Modi.
