As Mahavir calls on Ajmal, AIUDF mulls strategy shift

Rajya Sabha polls

BY OUR STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, March 15: With only a week left for elections to the two Rajya Sabha seats from the State, the opposition AIUDF is likely to change its stance following independent candidate Mahavir Jain calling on AIUDF supermo Badaruddin Ajmal.

Talking to the media on Tuesday, Ajmal said, "As the Congress denied candidature to Abdul Muhib Mazumdar for the Rajya Sabha, we thought about abstaining from the elections. But with Mahavir Jain now approaching us, we may change our stand. We will decide on it within a day or two in the party forum."

Meanwhile, sources said that it is a BJP strategy not to give a walkover to the Congress. The BPF's support to Mahavir Jain on Hagrama's instruction and the feelers to Ajmal is all part of the game plan according to the sources.
