ASDMA to procure 100 inflatable boats

Guwahati, June 10: The Assam State Disaster Magement Agency is in the process of procuring a hundred inflatable rubber boats for deployment during flood relief and rescue operations.

The agency has already procured 40 such boats from a Gurgaon-based firm and they have been dispatched to the vulnerable districts. Another sixty are likely to be delivered by the firm by the first week of July. Dhubri, Barpeta, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji have been given six boats each. Each boat, fitted with mercury marine engines, costs Rs 4.5 lakh. They come with one year warranty. The supplier will also provide free maintence for two years. The boats have been tested by the Indian Register of Shipping. The State earlier had just 50 inflatable boats.
