New Delhi, Aug 7: With an aim to sensitize the people living in Delhi and other cities in the country on the ongoing NRC update and the dangerous consequences of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, the Asom Andolan Sangrami Manch on Tuesday organized a seminar at Press Club of India here.

Eminent journalist Shekhar Gupta, who inaugurated the seminar on 'illegal influx of foreign nationals in Assam and implementation of the Assam Accord in the context of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016' here on Tuesday, said that the event was being organized at the right time to sensitize the people in rest of India about the burning issues of Assam.

Speaking at the seminar former two-time Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, who led the historic Assam Movement, said that the NRC update exercise is part of the Centre’s commitment to fulfill the Assam Accord. He said the sole objective of the NRC update is to detect the illegal migrants living in Assam. “The exercise has no intention at all to target any religious and linguistic community,” Mahanta said.

Former IAS officers MP Bezbaruah and Santanu Thakur also spoke on the burning issues of Assam and the importance of letting the people in rest of India know the issues.
