Crime graph shoots up due to sloppy investigations, poor case disposal rate and lax policing

Probe still on in 535 riot cases since 2001

Guwahati, Feb 21: Altogether 535 cases registered in connection with the eight riots the State has witnessed since 2001 are still under investigation.

As per official statistics, a total of 6,658 cases were registered by police in connection with the riots in which 535 persons, including 45 children and 80 women, lost their lives.

Of these, police has submitted chargesheets in 159 cases, while the fil report was given in 3,594 cases. Twelve cases were handed over to central agencies for investigation and 2,358 cases were amalgamated (clubbed with other cases).

Police have made 1,518 arrests so far.

The Bodo-Muslim clashes of 2012 which saw the killing of 109 people was the deadliest of riots convulsing the State.

In 2005, altogether 106 people were killed in clashes between Karbi and Dimasa tribals.

Ninety eight persons were killed in the Kuki-Karbi riots of 2003.
