Assam lockdown: SEBA online lessons in Bodo language get rave reviews

BRIDGING LOCKDOWN GAP

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: At a time when the ongoing nationwide lockdown to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus is creating uncertainty regarding early commencement of the new academic session in the State, the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has taken an initiative to teach subjects in the Bodo along with Assamese and English languages on the online mode.

These courses will especially cater to the need of 4 lakh plus registered Class-X students under the SEBA. The Board has collaborated with the digital learning platform ‘SIQES Eduaid’ for teaching the Class-X course by covering the syllabus of Science, Mathematics and English for March and April. Students can access the lessons live on Youtube from 5 pm to 6 pm daily six days a week except for Sunday.

The videos in Bodo are getting up to 400 views every day. The total views of the videos have crossed 7 lakh. Students and parents are interacting in the comments section with the teachers. Six teachers for three subjects have been assigned the work.

A SEBA official said that the initiative to teach lessons online in Bodo language is the first of its kind in the State; and it will benefit 22,000 registered Bodo students of the Board. He pointed out that since the SEBA’s academic calendar commenced from January this year, the online initiative would bridge the gap caused by the ongoing lockdown.
