GUWAHATI, July 18: Nineteen more officers were arrested in the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) on Wednesday. With these arrests, the total number of officers arrested in connection with the scam has risen to 55.
The officers were summoned in SB Headquarters at Kahilipara in Guwahati on Wednesday on the pretext of collecting samples of their hand writings.
However, that was part of the investigators’ dragnet. The fact remains that the police had already collected hand writings of the 19 officers from their respective offices long back, sent the hand writing samples to forensic science laboratories and got their reports. Having received concrete evidences against the 19 officers, the investigators called them on Wednesday on the pretext of collecting their hand writing samples. The arrested officers also include Pallavi Sarma, the daughter of MP Ram Prasad Sarma.
Talking to the media on Wednesday, Dibrugarh SP Gautam Borah said: “Each of the 19 arrested officers took to fraudulent means in two to five answer scripts. Samples of the 19 officers were collected earlier. They have been arrested based on reports of forensic science laboratories.”
The arrested ACS officers are Utpal Bhuyan, Barnali Das, Susovan Das, Dhruvojyoti Chakraborty, Manzoor Ilahi Laskar, Moon Mazoomdar, Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan, Md Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan, Monika Teronpi, Ganesh Chandra Das, Srabanti Sen Gupta, Deepsikha Phukan and Leena Krishna Kakati.
