GUWAHATI: Assam has strengthened the surveillance and control measures against novel coronavirus (nCov), the fatal disease that turned epidemic in neighboring China.

A media bulletin issued by State Health & Family Welfare Department on Sunday evening stated that till this date 151 passengers have been screened at the LGBI Airport, Borjhar in Guwahati; 43 at the Mohanbari Airport, Dibrugarh; 25 at the Lilabari Airport, Lakhimpur; six at the Kumbhirgram Airport, Silchar; five at the Roroiya Airport in Jorhat; and nine at the Salonibari Airport in Tezpur.

Altogether 56 travelers from the coronavirus-affected countries have been identified and are under home isolation. Information about 23 passengers from other States (nine from Meghalaya; six from Bhutan; five from Telangana; and three from Nagaland) were shared with the States concerned; and all the passengers have already left Assam. Till date, two samples have been sent to the NIV, Pune for testing. While one sample has been found to be negative, the other samples were returned as “non-indicated case”.
